COVID-19 SUPPORT FOR ALL LONDON PRISONS

The context

The head of London prisons at NHS England needed some urgent COVID support. Early in the pandemic, prisoners and prison officers were at high-risk of catching and spreading COVID throughout the prisons which could have led to detrimental outbreaks within the prison sites.

Our role

Help gather the daily situation report information and amalgamate to get a London-wide picture and identify the pinch points.

PCG worked with NHS England and the prisons to create a data template which was submitted daily by the sites. Off the back of this, PCG created a dashboard which pulled all the information together to show a clear picture of what was happening with key metrics such as numbers of isolated COVID beds available in each prison, number/percentage of workforce off sick due to COVID, number of prisoners with COVID, stock and supply of PPE equipment and other associated measures related to managing COVID within the prisons.

The outcome

Informed decision making based off clear and accurate data insights. This meant aversion of any major issues within the prison service including managing staff sickness, avoiding a disastrous impact on the already shortage of prison offices and avoiding outbreaks within prisons.
